Weekend Bolts: Good Until Wemby

The Oklahoma City Thunder were rolling until hosting the leading Rookie of the Year candidate, Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs. The 132-118 loss to the Spurs snapped OKC's 6-game win streak and dropped the team to second in the Western Conference standings.

Chet Holmgren has been incredible this season, and if not for Wemby padding stats on a bad Spurs team, Holmgren would likely be running away with the ROY award. But alas, VW will continue to get pub as the ROY leader.

Victor Wembanyama outduels Chet Holmgren as Spurs upend 2nd-place Thunder
Wembanayma filled up the box score again while connecting on 5 of 7 3-point attempts as he continues to find his stroke from long distance.

But maybe Chet should be getting more love...

Holmgren has also set a Thunder rookie record for fastest to reach 1,000 points.

Josh Giddey is the most polarizing player on the Thunder right now, with serious questions about his fit with the roster as constructed. Joe Mussatto (The Oklahoman) makes the case for why Giddey should remain in the starting 5.

Mussatto’s Minutes: Why Josh Giddey should stay in Thunder starting lineup
You don’t have to be a basketball savant to see that Josh Giddey, like a puzzle piece from a different box, doesn’t naturally fit.

In moderately-shocking news this week, the Thunder released Aleksej Pokusevski. Poku is a former no. 17 overall pick that the team traded-up for in the 2020 NBA draft.

Poku was quickly claimed by Charlotte.

The Poku news was later offset by a blockbuster signing... Mike Muscala will be back with the Thunder.
