Shai’s Style: An LA Statement Hoodie
Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander made a bold statement to his former team before Thursday’s game even started.
Gilgeous-Alexander, who was traded from the Los Angeles Clippers to Oklahoma City this past offseason, was seen pregame wearing a hoodie that prominently depicts a famous Allen Iverson crossover.
This crossover, which occurred in game one of the 2001 NBA Finals, featured Iverson ruthlessly stepping over a young Los Angeles Lakers guard named Tyronn Lue.
Sure, we all know Ty Lue from the second reign of Lebron James in Cleveland, but it’s what he’s up to today that makes Shai’s clothing choice so bold. Lue is back in Los Angeles and is currently an assistant coach for the Clippers.
This sweatshirt could mean that SGA wants to metaphorically “step over” Tyronn Lue and the Clippers on Thursday– and it wouldn’t be the first time he’s done so this season. Last time Gilgeous-Alexander played against his former team was on Dec. 22. This game resulted in a 118-112 Thunder win and a season-high 32 points for SGA.
