Report: Billy Donovan working on rounding out staff
Per Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, Billy Donovan is working on constructing his coaching staff, with names like Monty Williams, former Thunder assistant Brian Keefe and former 66ers coach Nate Tibbetts being mentioned.
Donovan has a targeted interest in several potential candidates, including ex-New Orleans Pelicans coach Monty Williams, Chicago Bulls assistant Andy Greer and Portland Trail Blazers assistant Nate Tibbetts, league sources said.
Another possibility could be the return of New York Knicks assistant Brian Keefe, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Keefe left ex-Thunder coach Scott Brooks’ Thunder staff to join Derek Fisher in New York a year ago. Keefe is well-regarded among Thunder management and players. Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook are among the players partial to Keefe.
According to the report, Donovan also reached out to Mike Brown, who declined any interest.
The spots Donovan is trying to fill would be his top two assistant coaching spots, as he already has three in place: Anthony Grant, as previously reported, Mark Bryant, who will be retained, and Darko Rajakovic.
Shooting coach Adam Harrington will also be retained.
