Patrick Patterson Has Knee Surgery, Out 4-6 Weeks

According to Erik Horne of the Oklahoman, Patrick Patterson has undergone successful arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. He is expected to miss at least 4-6 weeks, putting next month’s training camp in serious question.

In a release from the organization, the Thunder said, “The proactive procedure was performed by Dr. Neal S. ElAttrache of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles, California. Patterson will be re-evaluated in 4-6 weeks.”

Patterson hinted at the procedure last night on Twitter, teasing a “Big day” ahead. It was initially unclear what he meant, but today’s news clears up any confusion. Hardly the surprise fans were hoping for.

The knee in question has been a thorn in Patterson’s side as far back as 2013, and the 28-year-old big man missed 17 games last season due to left knee-related issues. Those issues included soreness, strains and a contusion that will hopefully be alleviated by today’s surgery. With 68 days remaining before the start of the 2017-18 NBA season, there is enough time for a complete recovery if everything heals correctly.

Patterson averaged 6.8 points and 4.5 rebounds for the Toronto Raptors last season, shooting 37 percent from downtown in the process. He’s expected to be the starting power forward on opening night and a big part of the Thunder’s plans next season, so here’s to an expedient healing process.
